Beekeepers Trained for Increased Output
Beekeepers in Athi Ward, Kitui County, have long faced low honey yields, colony losses, and limited market opportunities due to traditional beekeeping practices.
To help address these challenges, 121 farmers received practical training from Kamaki Cooperatives on hive management, colony care, pest control, and quality honey harvesting. The training was conducted under the Nature Positive Project being implemented by the NCCK in partnership with the United Church of Canada and the Canadian Food Grains Bank.
The skills gained are expected to improve honey production, reduce colony losses, enhance honey quality, and increase household incomes.
The farmers also learned the importance of conserving indigenous trees and planting bee-friendly vegetation, strengthening both livelihoods and environmental conservation.
Better skills. Better harvests. Better livelihoods
