National Examinations 2026

Press Release

We in the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) wish all the 3,634,846 learners who are sitting for their national examinations success and God’s favour. We know you have worked hard to get to this point of sitting for written examinations, and we join you in making the prayer recorded in Psalm 90: 17

May the favour of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.

We assure you of our continued prayers throughout the period of your examinations. May God protect each of you from accidents or incidents that would affect your ability to your best in the examinations. And we are sure our God will grant you to receive results that will bring you satisfaction that your hard work paid off.

Appreciably, examination being undertaken this year is an important step in the lives of our  children, who are the future of our nation. The results learners taking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) will determine the pathway the learner will follow thereafter.

For this reason, we call upon the Ministry of Education, the Kenya National Examination Council and all related stakeholders to take administration of the national examinations as a sacred duty for which they will be individually held accountable by God.

The cases of examination cheating and leakages that were reported in past years must be curtailed and all officials involved have firm and visible action taken against them. Exam leakage cannot happen without examination officials being involved, and these are the ones who must be dealt with. We take note that no public information exists on the punishment meted on the 78 people arrested for circulating exam materials on social media in 2025. The meaning of the warning in Ecclesiastes 8: 11 must never be lost on us:

When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong.

Further, the examination administrators must prevent the questionable marking and grading as well as errors in the results that were noted in previous years. The results are too important in the lives of the learners to be handled casually.

It is in this context that we also appeal for fair remuneration of the teachers who are engaged to mark the examinations. The constant complaints about poor working conditions, long working hours and delayed payments must be addressed for the wellbeing of our children.

So to all the KCSE, KJSEA, KPLEA and KPSEA learners, we pray that God will give you peace and calmness as you do your examinations, and may He help you remember what you have learnt so that you come out with the success you have prayed for.

Signed on this 25th day of October 2026 at Jumuia Place, Nairobi.

Rev Canon Chris Kinyanjui

General Secretary
