Water Resources Users Association Formed

by admin / Thursday, 22 May 2025 / Published in News

Water Resources Users Association Formed

The NCCK has spearheaded the formation of a 50-member Water Resources Users Association (WRUA) in Athi Ward, Kitui County, to foster equitable accessible to water by the residents.

The WRUA was formed as consequence of public sensitization forums that were conducted by NCCK in partnership with the Water Resources Authority (WRA) in different villages in the Ward. The forums focused on inspiring the residents to actively participate in common initiatives to address long-standing challenges of water scarcity and environmental degradation.

Aaron Mulwa, an officer at the WRA, celebrated the formation of the WRUA, terming it “a transformative step towards strengthening community-based water governance”.

“Water is life, and this effort gives us hope,” said James Wambua, a resident of Katilini village.

The members of the Athi Ward Water Resources Users Association elected officials, who will in the coming days be trained on governance, water resource management and environmental conservation. Their main task will be development of a Sub-Catchment Management Plan to guide sustainable water use in the region.
