VSLA Groups Mobilise KSh 720,000 savings
Members of ten Village Savings and Loans Association groups in Morulem built savings kitties adding up to KSh 720,000 between January and September 2026.
The monumental feat in their financial resilience journey was confirmed during a monthly VSLA monitoring conducted by the NCCK staff team.
Quite impressively, the groups earned KSh 32,060 in interest from loans they issued to members of KSh 328,000. “The average uptake of loans by the members is due to limitation of economic activities in the localities,” explained John Esukukuu, the NCCK VSLA officer. He pointed out that the “the group members have build very healthy savings and loan repayment cultures which are key indicators of financial resilience”.
The savings of the ten groups are: Nabwel Farmers (KSh 95,000), Achercher (KSh 87,200), Network Morulem (KSh 85,000), Ngalideta Farmers (KSh 76,700), Najokokiriam (KSh 68,390), Kaekunyuk Farmers (KSh 64,500), Nakadon and Moru (KSh 55,900), Anyoun Farmers (KSh 50,800), Lodoket-Ewol (KSh 36,200), and Atanakoo Farmers (KSh 31,150).
In addition to the KSh 650,840 savings, the groups have a social fund of KSh 69,350.
“The biggest challenge the groups face is storage of the money since the nearest banking facilities are in Lodwar, which is 160 km away”, Esukukuu pointed out. To mitigate this, the NCCK provided the groups with cash boxes where the money is kept safely.
To sustain the savings culture, the NCCK provides trainings for the group members on savings mobilization, loan issuance, record keeping and social fund management.
