Build Bridges Between Talent and Opportunity

Build Bridges Between Talent and Opportunity

Anthony Karanja, the Workforce Development Lead at Mastercard Foundation, has urged the youth to use skills, mindset, confidence, adaptability and resilience to build bridges between talent and opportunity.

While addressing the 6th edition of Pwani Innovation Week, Anthony reminded the more than 1,000 young people participating that the world of work is evolving very fast, and thriving in it means more than just hustling.

“Hustle is the spark, but skills are the fuel. Building a career means creating your own path, not walking merely to be seen,” he pointed out.

The Pwani Innovation Week is an annual convention organized by the Swahili Pot Hub Foundation, and brings together stakeholders to share and garner support for youth innovations. Swahili Pot Hub Foundation, the Mastercard Foundation, EE4Impact and the National Council of Churches of Kenya are partnering in the delivery of Vijana 2 Thrive (V2T) project, an initiative aimed at mentoring 30,000 young people in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kitui and Nairobi counties over the next three years.

Observing that talent is everywhere but opportunities are not, Anthony called on youthful innovators to embrace adaptability and resilience by showing up and never giving up.

We need mentorship, community support and access to training, which will open doors for the young people,” Anthony remarked, noting that “We need to build the future with the youth, not for the youth”.
