Environmental Club Patrons Trained
The NCCK has trained 28 Environmental Club Patrons on young tree protection and vegetable garden management.
The Patrons were drawn from 28 schools which in the past year have been busy planting trees around their compounds and setting up kitchen gardens. This followed previous trainings and mobilization of learners to for environmental clubs in schools.
Through the Environmental Club, learners are practically taught to environmental stewardship and food production. They are especially equipped to understand and embrace nature-based regeneration of climate-change affected environs. The members of the clubs were then supported by their schools and the NCCK to plant trees and establish the vegetable gardens.
During the training, the Patrons were empowered to help both teachers and learners to protect the trees and vegetables. The training covered aspects of physical care of plants as well as pest and disease management.
“A tree planted is only a promise. A tree protected is a future secured,” Mr Daniel Muiruri, the expert who conducted the training, said.
