Strategic Approaches

Dignified Livelihoods and Capacity Development

The Council will address Western Region youth unemployment through decentralized vocational training tailored to local economic opportunities—agricultural entrepreneurship in Kakamega and Bungoma, cross-border trade skills in Busia. NCCK will establish youth innovation hubs providing mentorship, technology access, and startup funding. Digital skills training will focus on e-commerce and online freelancing to connect youth with broader markets. Mental health support will address unemployment's psychological impacts, while youth-led advocacy groups will engage county governments on youth-focused policies and budget allocations, ensuring sustainable economic participation and empowerment.

Governance, Devolution, Peace and Cohesion

NCCK will strengthen citizen participation through community-led service charters and social audits that hold county governments accountable. Peace initiatives will address cross-border dialogue in Busia, inter-community reconciliation in Bungoma, and urban cohesion in Kakamega. Youth-led "Gumzo Mtaani" discussions will create safe spaces for addressing tensions. We'll advocate for ward development committees across all counties, ensuring grassroots resource access, while providing civic education on constitutional rights to empower communities in governance processes, particularly budget formulation and implementation monitoring.

Climate Change, Food Security, and Natural Resource Management

NCCK will promote climate-smart agriculture through strategic demonstration farms showcasing drought-resistant crops and water-efficient irrigation. Community-based environmental monitoring systems will track deforestation and soil erosion, with trained champions leading protection efforts. Watershed management committees will safeguard critical water sources. Agricultural value addition and market linkages will help farmers maximize returns, while advocacy will focus on equitable benefit-sharing from regional resources. Energy-efficient technologies will reduce pressure on diminishing forests while improving household health and economic stability.

Education and Health

The Council will support scholarship programs targeting orphans and girls at risk, while advocating for quality improvements in public schools. Christian Religious Education will be strengthened through teacher capacity building. Community-based healthcare approaches will expand access to preventive services, focusing on maternal health in high-mortality areas. Mental health support will be integrated into church activities. Mobile health outreaches will serve remote communities, while local accountability mechanisms will monitor resource allocation to ensure equitable distribution and reduce corruption in both education and health sectors.
