NCCK, Kitui County MOU Implementation Lauded

The implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the NCCK and County Government of Kitui in October last year is progressing well.

This emerged during a consultative meeting between the NCCK and County Executive Committee member for Water, Hon Peter Nkunda.

“The progress and efforts you have made to improve the lives of the people in our county is commendable. Your commitment to good work and transparency is unparalleled,” Hon Nkunda remarked.

The NCCK led, led by the Director of Programmes Phyllis Kiarie, thanked the County government for the partnership in the ongoing water projects in Ikutha Sub County. The water interventions are a component of the Kitui Child Centered Community Development project that is supported by Help A Child Africa (HACA).

During the meeting, Alex Kinanu, the NCCK project coordinator, reported that the NCCK has completed the construction of a sand dam across the Witu Stream at Kiangu. The work included installation of a solar-powered submersible pump as well as a water kiosk equipped with an 8,000 liter tank. Following the recent rains, the dam has filled with water and is of great benefit to the community.

At the Vuva River, NCCK reported to have completed the rehabilitation and expansion of an existing sand dam and construction of a new one. A sump well is being constructed to provide a source for a solar-powered submissible pump, which will provide water to two 10,000 liter water tanks that serve kiosks at Imiwa and Kyakavi.

The NCCK and County Government continue to partner on ongoing construction of a sump well and installation of a solar powered pump at Mutulu Tiva.

The CEC, who was accompanied by Director for Water, Mr Kennedy, will hold a follow up meeting with the NCCK team later in the month to assess progress on the other joint projects in the county.
