The URAIA SPARKe

Strengthening Public Accountability and Responsiveness in Kenya (SPARKe) – 2024.

The project achieved this through contributing towards strengthening of institutions key to cohesion by advocating for the reconstitution of IEBC and called for the end to abductions and extrajudicial killings at the height of the national Gen-Z led protests in June 2024. NCCK also increased it engagements in public mobilization to demand for improved service delivery where participants’ capacities were enhanced to engage in the budget-making process and interpret key governance documents. Lastly the project facilitated dialogue and mediation for peaceful coexistence through community inter-intra dialogue forums where participants developed organic approaches to strengthen collaboration with security agencies. Youth conversation sessions were also held to build their resilience and actively engage in peace efforts, resist political manipulation and advocate for their concerns through social media. Further peace and media messaging across congregations addressed political tensions and concerns over security agency actions, reinforcing the importance of dialogue, coexistence, and non-violence within communities. The project was conducted at the National level and at the following targeted counties (Kisumu, Vihiga, Kakamega Nairobi, Mombasa, West Pokot, Nairobi, Marsabit, Nakuru, and Bungoma)

  • The URAIA SPARKe (Strengthening Public Accountability and Responsiveness in Kenya) Project was aimed at increasing responsiveness and accountability in Kenya’s public spaces through increased constitutionalism and adherence to the rule of law; increased demand on the practice of UTU; and Knowledge management products
