Clergy Equipped for Media Engagement

Five NCCK Clergy drawn from Nairobi, Lower Eastern and Central regions have received hands-on skills for presenting the position of NCCK and partners during media interviews. the five were Bishop Joseph Ngige (AIPCA), Rev Linus Njagi (NICA), Rev Mary Mwangi (ACC&S), Rev Joseph Mukee (ABC) and Rev Simon Njoroge (PCEA).

The clergy participated in two one-day Spokesperson trainings conducted by International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA). Also in the training were representatives from other partners in the recently-launched Food Policy Coalition Kenya. These include Kenya Ethical and Legal Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN), Non Communicable Diseases Alliance Kenya (NCDAK), and African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC). Food Policy Coalition works in partnership with the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) to support development and implementation of policies that promote health and wellbeing of Kenyans.

During the Spokespersons training, the participants were sensitized on preparations for media interviews and how to effectively deliver the intended messages when live on air. They also discussed the possible risks that could arise during food policy advocacy processes, and the attendant crisis communication readiness for the same.

The clergy participated in a simulation TV show where a veteran anchor from a leading station interviewed them.
