Community Ownership Driving the Vijana2Thrive Program Across Nairobi

The Vijana2Thrive programme continues to receive warm reception by communities across Nairobi County even as the mentors mobilize Cohort 3 teams.

During community outreach and engagement forums in different sub counties, local leaders and residents appreciated the importance of investing in young people and creating supportive environments where they can thrive.

“We welcome the Vijana2Thrive programme and will support in sharing its message through our community networks so that more young people can learn about and benefit from the opportunities available,” affirmed Chief Edward Mazera from Kibra.

This was echoed by Chief Carolyne Awuor from Baba Ndogo area as she indicated: “I appreciate that you came here personally and you have fulfilled what we discussed. Ask me as the Chief, my role is to mobilize. I know this programme is coming to help the community. You are going to get the number and the programme will be a success.” She thanked the team for empowering girls so that their future is better.

The 20 Vijana2Thrive mentors engaged by the NCCK in Nairobi County organized community forums in their Sub Counties where they convened Chiefs, Village Elders, Members of the Nyumba Kumi security structure, community members and the youth. Besides introducing the project, the forums provided opportunity for community members to discuss the challenges facing young people in their localities, including limited access to opportunities, unemployment, inadequate mentorship, and the need for practical skills and support for young entrepreneurs. Participants expressed their support for the programme and emphasized that meaningful youth empowerment requires strong collaboration between communities, local leadership, churches, youth structures, and other stakeholders.

With a goal of transforming the lives of young people through mentorship and skilling, Vijana2Thrive is an initiative of the NCCK, Swahilipot Hub, Mastercard Foundation and E4Impact.
