NCCK Trains Clergy on Alternative Dispute Resolution
150 clergy drawn from the NCCK, Evangelical Alliance of Kenya and the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops in Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties have been trained Court Mediated Alternative Dispute Resolution (CMADR).
The training was organized in partnership with Karatina University and the Court Annexed Mediation Secretariat of the Judiciary. It is part of the efforts by the Kenya Judiciary to foster peace and justice by equipping faith leaders to mediate family, land, and interpersonal disputes. The training comes on the heels of the consultative meeting held between the NCCK and the Judiciary in February 2025 (https://ncck.org/ncck-judiciary-to-collaborate-on-court-annexed-mediation/).
Addressing the clergy, Justice Mugo Mwangi of the Environment and Land Court highlighted mediation’s role in community healing. “It fosters reconciliation and avoids the costs of litigation,” he said.
Among those present were Karatina University Vice Chancellor Prof Linus Gitonga and Principal Magistrate Hon Eva Kanyiri, thereby underscoring the collaboration between academia, judiciary and faith groups.
On its part, the NCCK reaffirmed its commitment to faith-driven Alternative Dispute Resolution as a strategy to contribute to reduction of backlogs in court cases.
