Nairobi Youths Tastefully Equipped in Hospitality Bootcamp
Hospitality is not just about serving, but creating experiences.
This was the core lesson learnt by 30 youths drawn from the 18 constituencies of Nairobi during the Hospitality Bootcamp held this week. The Hospitality Bootcamp is one of the many skilling initiatives organized by the NCCK in partnership with Swahili Pot Hub, E4Impact and Mastercard Foundation under the Vijana2Thrive project.
During the bootcamp, the classroom gave way to practice as learning became practical real life experience. The mentees went on a life-changing journey as they discovered what it takes to turn ingredients into quality dishes.
At the barista station, they explored the art behind beverages, learning how to make coffee, smoothies, and even ice cream. For many, it was their first time brewing quality, not just a drink.
In the pastry and baking session, the mentees learned how precision shapes results. From baking a simple cake to decorating it beautifully, and preparing cookies from scratch, the lesson was clear: in baking, every gram matters. Measuring ingredients correctly using the scale is not just a skill, but a discipline every experience creator must cultivate.
The serving session brought another layer of professionalism. The mentees were taken through the basics of customer engagement; how to approach guests, prepare and set a table, fold napkins, arrange cutlery, and carry trays with confidence and care. They learned that service is not only about delivering food, but about making customers feel seen, valued, and comfortable.
